Lions, Tigers, and Spanish- OH My! :)

Hola mis amigos,
Today concludes our third day in the Dominican Republic. I'm going to keep this post short because we are very tired :) This morning we helped Peg make breakfast for the council meeting. Emily and I each made a coffee cake, Denver Egg Casserole, and strawberry yogurt parfaits. I think the people here really liked what we made, on account that they ate most of it. The council meeting went from 8:30 until 2. It was great meeting the council. They are a group of super nice men and women that each have their own responsibilities in the church. They welcomed us to their country very warmly and it made me feel more at home.  Later we went to the park with the teens group. It was a fun time where we played games, ate snacks, and  one of the council members, Saul preached about God. Later; the teens, Emily and I , and a few of the adults hung out at the apartment. Many of the teens did not speak English, so I got a lot of practice with my Spanish. After they left we went with Bill to a Spanish church service at JesuCristo, Fuente De Amor. It was very nice service and they had very graceful dancers. Hopefully, we will post more pictures on Monday. Tomorrow is Sunday, so we will be very busy and have a lot to report on later.!!!!!

Bug Bites and Breakfast Cereal

Hey Everyone! As we start day two here in the D.R. we just wanted to share what was going on.  We were going to attend our first Bible study but last night, but because of the 3+ hours of pouring rain we received here( and I do mean pouring) we were unable to get the car through all of the taimpon (taym-pone) (street congestion).  So, Bill decided to turn around and go to the Spanish church, which is one block from the apartment.  We stayed there for the opening of their service which was a very cool experience.  While we didn't know all of what they were saying, seeing other believers singing praises to God at the top of their lungs was a neat experience.  Despite the pouring rain and the language barrier, we could still worship together.  After we left, we came back to the apartment and we met Nathan, who is a man staying here with Bill and Peg.  He is visiting to explore Bill and Peg's ministry as well as look into business ventures in Santo Domingo as well.  Nathan is very nice and he has been a big help with our spanish.  We also met Ruth Carolina yesterday.  She is also very sweet and she helps out at Bill and Peg's house as well as attends the Engligh church.
Today, we had our first Spanish lesson with the Professor.   He is very knowledgeable and he is very good at speaking slower so we can understand and correcting our Spanish.  Since conversational Spanish is not emphasized enough in public schools, that is what he started with and I learned new things already! :) This afternoon we went to the supermarket and are going to prepare for the church board meeting tomorrow.  We are so excited to meet more church members and for our first church service on Sunday.  God has lots in store for us!

We have arrived!

Our day started at 3:45 am when we arrived at the airport, with crying mothers and full bags (Emily's was 60 lbs. so she had to eliminate some of her hand sanitizer) we departed from Omaha. The most stressful part of our day was the 40 minute layover in Atlanta, we had to get from terminal A2 to terminal E35. But, by the grace of God and a little running, we made our flight! When we arrived in Santo Domingo a man named Abel met us off our plane and took us through customs, with his help we made it through the sometimes confusing process with ease. THANK YOU ABEL!!! Our luggage even made it with no problems, despite the quick layover (YEAH). Now we are back at the apartment and with the help of Bill we have created two beautiful apple pies. Later we will be attending a Bible study. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this month.
